Carol Sylvia has been the Director of St. James Preschool Learning Center since 1998. She holds a degree in Psychology and Elementary Education from Merrimack College in North Andover. She has taken numerous graduate courses and continues to attend educational conferences and workshops. The latter includes: Handwriting Without Tears, Speech and Language Tips, Sensory Motor Skills, Preschool Behavior and Working Successfully with the Difficult Child, Social/Emotional Competence in Preschoolers, Pre-K Math as well as workshops in the area of brain based-strategies relating to music, movement, and postitive behaviors of trust and cooperation in the classroom.

Carol has has also served on all committees to implement structure and transition into the Merrimack Kindergarten Public School System.

Her profound interest in Special Education has been instrumental in helping children at all levels. As the Director, she provides ongoing training for all preschool staff and develops and implements preschool policies and procedures. She is responsible for the planning and carrying out of the every day activities in a comfortable and safe environment to ensure quality early childhood education.  

Carol lives in Merrimack with her husband Ed and children Andrew, Patrick and Caitlin. In her free time she loves to cook and travel. She especially enjoys vacationing at her summer home in Harwich on the Cape. Carol's expertise, compassion and love of children make her the ideal Director for a preschool setting. Through a variety of educational approaches, she supports the development of children by  helping them achieve their potential. We are fortunate to have such a devoted and qualified administrator.
